What's it about? IMDB VersionSet in a world destined for extinction as women have stopped having children. When remarkably 100 embryos are successfully fertilized, a national lottery is held to decide the surrogates.
What's it about? My Version
A scientist manages to fertilize 100 embryos thus leading to a national lottery. 200 women are chosen and put through random testing to see who is best suitable. There are 6 healthy living children left in the entire world at this point. The government kidnaps these children with hopes of finding a way to fertilize and carry on the worlds order.
My Views:
I have been watching this show since its original air date on July 20th. At first I loved the show and saw myself becoming an avid watcher. As the weeks went on, I found myself questioning this shows message. Its about the 4th or 5th episode right now and I have to admit this show has put quite a bit of fear in my heart. As a woman who is suffering from infertility with "unanswerable reasons" this makes me wonder (in the crazy part of my mind) if someone somewhere is sterilizing a good half of the population. I know so many other women who are in the same boat as I am. There are groups that I belong to where on a daily basis these women say " I am suffering from unexplainable infertility". Situations such as being medicated, all organs within your body are functioning and healthy, IUIs with guaranteed success rates, and yet here we are still unable to get pregnant. I don't know. It just seems like a touchy subject to make a show out of and portray it so negatively.
I wonder if when the writer was creating this show, if they thought about how this would affect women who are dealing with infertility. Its hard enough as it is on a daily basis having to inject yourself, pop pills, doctors appointments, blood tests, ultrasounds, you name it. Then you add a show that is basically claiming the government sterilized the world in order to start all over and do it how they wanted it. I have to admit it scares me a little when its so difficult for me to get pregnant right now. Makes me have "man behind the curtain" syndrome. Like does someone know secrets I don't. Is my right as a women being taken away for someone else's order? Crazy but this show put that in my head.
Anyway, don't get me wrong by what I have just said. If you are just your average tv watcher with no ties to the infertility/trying to conceive world than this show is great. I enjoy watching it aside from the questions it leaves floating around in my head. I'm not the huge fan I thought I would be, but I get to it on my DVR when I can. But again thats just me. If you want to watch it, The Lottery can be seen on Sunday's at 10PM on the Lifetime Channel.
